Critical Archive

Q: What if we already have a tape backup system? Using a Tape Backup or Disk system along with an off-site backup system offers the best of both worlds. Critical files, like billing, customer contact files and databases can be kept remotely for Disaster Recovery purposes and the tape or disk system can be used to create a full backup of the entire system nightly to provide a quick local access to backup files.

Q: How long will a Critical Archive backup take? Offices with high-speed internet connections should find this service comparable with tape drives. The initial backup is done using a locally connected NAS device that is shipped to you once you sign up. We help you add the device to your network and we setup a backup job that copies all of the data you wish to archive to the device. Once that function is completed, you ship the device back to us with the self contained shipping label and we download the data to the archive for you. Once this is completed, we ship the NAS device back to you and regular archiving begins.

Depending on your proximity, we can also come to your office and make the initial backup of your system. Call us and we discuss various options to get you up and running.

Q: Onsite, Offsite - What's the Difference? Basically, our backups work like regular tape backups, with one important difference. Instead of sending backups to a tape drive or other media attached to the computer being backed up, our backups send encrypted file data over the internet to a computer file storage system safely off-site.

This usually happens at night while your business is closed and nobody is using the computers. It's completely automatic. In fact, you may forget it's working every night.

Q: What if I just had a disaster and I need my data faster than I can download it over the internet? If you download your restoration files over the internet - we assist you at no charge. If you need your data sent to you overnight, for $499, we send you everything on a NAS device with overnight shipping so that you can reload your data at GIG E Ethernet Speeds (1000 mbs).

Q: Why Are Backups By Critical Archive Considered More Beneficial? The data is immediately stored off-site using an automated backup system. Also, only an internet connection is needed. Completely eliminating the need for expensive backup equipment and media. And, since the system is automated, manual labor is eliminated.

Q: How Secure Are Backups By Critical Archive? Very. All files are encrypted using Blowfish or DES encryption which is selected by the user with their own personal encryption code which is only known by the user of the system. Blowfish encryption has never been broken by a hacker. DES is used by the federal banking system.

Q: What is encryption? Encryption is basically a mathematical formula that scrambles a data file. And the only way to unscramble it is with the encryption code.

Q: This sounds complicated – how do I get started? Call us! We will be happy to answer all of your questions and help you pick a plan that is best for you!

Q: Who is Critical Archive? Critical Archive is a division of Turbotek Computer in Manchester NH. Turbotek has been in business for over 20 years providing IT services and solutions to businesses of all sizes in the US.

Q: What Happens if I lose my Password or Key Code to my offsite Backup? You have the ability to restore your data to the same machine without the encryption key and password as long as it is the same location you are restoring the file or files the server and the colo server trust one another. However if you are restoring to a different location or even a different server (Which you have the ability to do) You will need to have the encryption key and account password if you lose this you will not have the ability to restore your data. We cannot recommend strongly enough the importance of keeping this information in a safe place and the need to periodically test the restoration of a few files so that you know the restore process is working for you. We would be happy to assist you with testing. If you would like we can retain a copy of your encryptions keys and password.

Q: What if I need all my data back and my internet line is slow? If your internet speed is slower for $499 we can load your encrypted data on to a storage device and overnight it to you for restoration. (You will need your encryptions keys and your password)

Q: How many days to you typically retain my data for? The default setup is set for 30 days we are taking differentials so if a file changes it will be encrypted, compressed and copied to the colo offsite. We can retain your data for longer if you require.

Q: How do I restore my files or database? Once we install the client on the server we will give you a quick overview of the system we will demonstrate how to restore, you can always call our support line and we will be more than willing to assist you with this.
